What actually drives the number on your quote — and four things entirely within your control that bring it down. No headline price that changes when we arrive.

Straight talk
Plenty of skip companies advertise a headline price. It gets you to call. Then the load turns out to be mixed, or the access is tight, or you are 4 km outside the free radius, and the number changes.
We would rather tell you exactly what moves the price, publish the charges that are fixed, and then give you one number for your actual job that does not move afterwards. Here is the whole picture.
| Charge | What it is | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery & collection | Included in the quoted price | Within 10 km of Gordon's Bay — covers Gordon's Bay, Strand and most of Somerset West |
| Distance beyond 10 km | Standard AA / SARS per-kilometre rate | Stellenbosch and outlying addresses. Independently published — you can verify it yourself |
| Sorting fee | R375 | Mixed loads, and any load containing ceramic or porcelain tiles. Covers unpacking the load by hand at the landfill |
| Additional loads | Same unit, rotated | Charged per load actually used — you never pay for empty space |
| Hazardous waste | Quoted separately | Handled through a certified hazardous-waste contractor, never slipped into a normal load |
This is the big one, and it is entirely in your control. All rubble, or all garden refuse, or all cardboard — one gate, one movement, no sorting fee. The R375 is not a penalty, it is the cost of a person separating your load by hand. Do that separating as you fill and you simply do not pay it.
Ceramic and porcelain tiles trigger the sorting fee even in an otherwise clean rubble load. During a bathroom strip-out, putting tiles into their own rubble bags as they come off the wall takes ten minutes and keeps the rest of the load clean.
If you can barrow the waste to somewhere a vehicle can stand before we arrive, you convert labour time into your own effort. Entirely your call — plenty of people would rather pay and not lift a thing, and that is a perfectly reasonable choice. Just know that it is the lever.
One load, ready now → truck and driver. Filling gradually over days → a skip. Getting this backwards is the most common way people overpay, and it has nothing to do with rates.
A quote built from photos is accurate and it holds. A quote built from a phone description gets revised on arrival — which is exactly the experience everyone is trying to avoid.
| Skip on your property | Truck & driver collection | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Filling gradually over days | One load, ready to go now |
| You load | Yes, at your own pace | No — Cliff loads it |
| Stands on site | A day to a fortnight | Minutes |
| Heavy, dense waste | Usually better | Fine, but weight-limited |
| Bulky, light waste | Fills fast | Usually better |
| Flats & complexes | Often awkward to place | Usually the right answer |
| Ongoing building work | Much better | Repeated call-outs add up |

Nobody thinks in cubic metres. Everyone can picture a wheelbarrow. Drag the slider to roughly how many barrow loads are sitting there, and we'll tell you what it needs — then send it straight to Cliff.
A builder's wheelbarrow holds about 0.1 m³. Twenty-five of them fill one 2.5 m³ skip.
About 1.8 m³ — comfortably inside one 2.5 m³ skip. Leave it standing while you fill it over a day or two, then message Cliff to collect.
